“The gift of broadcasting is, without question, the lowest human capacity to which any man could attain.”
Sir Harold Nicolson
British writer and politician
Oh, oh! If old Harold is right I’ve wasted a good part of my life. I’ve devoted four decades to radio and television slaving away in Canadian newsrooms or more importantly in the field talking to people. What have I got to show for it? Mostly memories of great people with great stories to tell. Some of those stories are in my latest book, Anchorman.
Around 1999 I began to concede old Harold might have a bit of a point so I stopped yacking on the air and started writing. First, The Parrsboro Boxing Club which is not so much about boxing as it is about a relationship between a young boy and his father and the burdens placed on children by their parents.
Then came, Dream of the Dove, where I delved into my own family closet to write a book about my great uncle and his sea-going experiences. If you like stories of the raging sea, shipwrecks and a life of high adventures try this one.
Then it was time for some real fun with Ivor Johnson’s Neighbours. I’ve received a lot of feedback from this novel. One reader told me it was the funniest book she ever read.
I’m currently working on another novel and then maybe a book of short stories. Anyway, have a look around my website and if you happen to bump into Sir Harold, give him a kick in the ass.
Enjoy yourself and welcome to my website.
